CanPlay Casino: Closed in Ontario and Rebranded as Stardust

An Ontario-regulated casino from 2023 that became Stardust Casino; its own address no longer works.

Status: renamed

CanPlay Casino now operates under a different name. We keep this page so the facts and their sources stay findable. It is not scored, ranked or recommended anywhere on this site.

All casinos we cover · Where you can play

CanPlay Casino is closed. It was an Ontario-regulated online casino in 2023, and its address, on.canplaycasino.com, began forwarding to Stardust Casino later that year. On 28 October 2026 the CanPlay domain no longer resolved at all. There is no CanPlay slot lobby to review, no bonus to quote and no score to give.

This page sets out what CanPlay was, how the change to Stardust shows up in public records, and what is still unknown, with the date of each source. It also points Canadian players to the pages where regulated options are listed by province.

What CanPlay Casino was

Archived copies of on.canplaycasino.com from 7 February to 26 March 2023 show a working casino app titled "CanPlay Online Casino | Online Casino Games in Ontario". The page used GeoComply geolocation, the location check Ontario-regulated sites run to confirm a player is inside the province.

On 19 April 2023 CanPlay appeared in iGaming Ontario's directory of the regulated market, which lists operators registered with the AGCO that hold an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. That places it in Ontario's legal market at that time.

The company behind it is not named in any CanPlay-era terms, because none were archived. The evidence points to Pala Interactive: the Ontario iOS app that CanPlay used carries the bundle identifier com.palainteractive.canplaycasino.ontario, and Pala Interactive is owned by Boyd Gaming. No licence number or launch date for CanPlay was published anywhere we found.

Since the slot lobby was never captured in readable form, this page does not list game counts, providers or featured titles for CanPlay.

How CanPlay became Stardust

The change shows up in three public records, each dated:

  1. Directory. CanPlay was on the iGaming Ontario list on 19 April 2023 and absent from the copy archived on 25 September 2023. It is not on the live list.
  2. Redirect. By 19 October 2023, files on on.canplaycasino.com answered with redirects to on.stardustcasino.com, and the page they led to was titled "Stardust Casino".
  3. App. The Stardust Ontario app in Apple's App Store, sold by Boyd Gaming and first released on 27 October 2022, still uses the CanPlay bundle identifier. The CanPlay app became the Stardust app.

The rebrand therefore happened between 26 March 2023, the last capture under the CanPlay name, and 19 October 2023, the first capture of the redirect. No announcement giving the exact date was found. The terms of the Ontario Stardust site name Pala Interactive Canada Inc. as the licensed provider; you can read about that brand's slot lobby on our Stardust Casino page.

Checking a rebrand like this yourself

When a casino changes its name, the trail is often left in public records. The CanPlay case shows three checks anyone can repeat for a brand they used to play at:

  • Look the name up in iGaming Ontario's directory of the regulated market. A brand that has dropped off the list is no longer part of Ontario's legal market under that name.
  • Open the app's listing in the App Store or Google Play and read the seller's name. CanPlay's app now sits under Boyd Gaming as the Stardust Ontario app.
  • Read the operator named in the terms of whatever site the old address leads to, and compare it with the company you signed up with.

If those checks do not agree, treat the site as unverified until the operator explains the change in writing.

Account holders and the look-alike site

No CanPlay notice about accounts, balances or withdrawals was archived, so the sources do not say whether CanPlay accounts carried over to Stardust or were closed. If you held a CanPlay account in Ontario, the sources name no contact; since the Stardust Ontario app is the former CanPlay app, its operator is the most direct party to ask. Keep any emails or statements you still have.

Take care with www.canplaycasino.com. That address, active in archived copies from 2018 to 2025, is a separate affiliate and blog site, not the casino, and it was never the regulated Ontario product.

For players anywhere in Canada, the regulated routes are set by province. In Ontario, check for AGCO registration and an iGaming Ontario operating agreement. Alberta's regulated sites, registered with the AGLC and contracted through AiGC, launched on 13 July 2026. Other provinces each have a provincially run site. Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec allow play from 18; the other provinces from 19. Our legal online casinos page sorts the regulated choices by province, and the full list of casinos we cover is on the casinos page.
