Wagering Requirement Calculator

Type the numbers from the bonus terms to see the total you must bet, the spins it takes and the expected cost on the slot you pick.

A wagering requirement turns a bonus into a bill for bets. The terms give a multiplier, the base it applies to and how much each game counts; the calculator below turns those into dollars, spins and an expected cost at your slot's RTP. The examples on this page use real multipliers from the bonus terms on our casino pages, each with its source, so you can see how far apart they are. Amounts like C$100 are only there to make the maths easy to follow; type your own.

Expected cost = total bet x (100% - RTP). It is an average over a very long run, not a forecast of one session. Max-bet rules, time limits and win caps in the terms still apply.

Reading the result

If the expected cost is close to or above the bonus, the bonus mostly buys extra playing time rather than money. A lower multiplier, wagering on the bonus only and 100% slot contribution all make a bonus cheaper to clear.

A C$100 bonus with 35x wagering on the bonus:

  1. C$100 x 35 = C$3,500 of bets before the bonus turns into cash.
  2. At C$1 a spin that is about 3,500 spins; slots usually count 100%, table games often 10% or less.
  3. On a 96% RTP slot the house keeps about 4% of what you bet over time: roughly C$140 of expected loss on the way - more than the bonus itself.

Three ways casinos write the multiplier

The same "30x" can cost very different amounts depending on what it multiplies. The terms we checked use three bases, and the calculator handles all of them.

Base in the termsExample wordingBets per C$100 deposit and C$100 bonus
Bonus onlyJackpot City: "35x (35 times) the bonus amount"C$3,500
Deposit plus bonusLucky Days: "(Deposit+Bonus) x 30"C$6,000
Deposit onlyLeoVegas: "25 times the deposit amount, using real money"C$2,500

For bonus-only terms, choose "Bonus only". For deposit-plus-bonus terms, choose "Deposit + bonus". The calculator has no deposit-only setting, so for terms like those at LeoVegas choose "Bonus only" and type the deposit into the bonus field; the result is the same.

The multiplier itself varies far more than the base. On the regulated provincial and Alberta sites we cover, the terms we read say 10x at OLG.ca, 20x on PlayAlberta's deposit match, 20x at PlayNow Manitoba, 15x on the bonus at BetMGM's Alberta site and 1X at BetRivers' Alberta site. At the other end, Yukon Gold's first and second deposit bonuses are "subject to 200 times play-through": C$20,000 of bets for every C$100 of bonus. Among the casino terms on our site, 35x and 40x are the multipliers we meet most often.

Free-spin winnings often have their own multiplier: x25 at Lucky Days and 5x at BetMGM's Alberta site, for example. Run them through the calculator separately.

Game contribution and the slot you pick

Contribution is the share of each bet that counts toward the requirement. At 50%, every C$1 you bet clears only C$0.50, so a C$3,500 requirement takes C$7,000 of bets. Type the percentage into the "Game contribution" field and the total updates.

Slots usually count in full, but not always. Jackpot City's terms count NetEnt slots at 50%, re-spin slots at 10% and progressive jackpots at 0%. Casumo's terms count slots with an RTP of 96.8% or higher at only 30%. Live games are often near zero: 10% for live roulette and live blackjack at Lucky Days, 0% for live games at LeoVegas, 20% for live dealer table games at BetMGM's Alberta site, and 2% for table and live games at Yukon Gold. Baccarat is 0% at Jackpot City and at Casumo.

The slot's RTP sets the expected cost. That cost is the total bet times the house edge (100% minus the RTP), an average over a very long run. On a C$3,500 requirement:

The last line is why the RTP version matters as much as the multiplier: the same slot at a lower setting can turn a C$100 bonus into an expected loss. Check the game's info screen at the casino, and read our RTP versions guide.

Max bet, time limits and the fine print

Most terms cap the stake while a bonus is active. Lucky Days and Casumo set C$5 per spin, Casino Days $10 per bet with bonus funds, and Jackpot City 8 per round and 50c per line (printed as EUR 8 in the copy we read). Yukon Gold's terms warn that single bets of 25% or more of the bonus value before the play-through is met may void winnings. Under terms like these, breaking a max-bet rule can cost what the bonus has won.

The cap also sets how long clearing takes. A C$6,000 requirement at the C$5 maximum is at least 1,200 spins; at C$1 a spin it is 6,000. Type your stake into the calculator to see the spin count, then compare it with the time limit in the terms.

Some offers carry no wagering at all. PlayOJO's welcome spins pay winnings in cash with no max win limit, according to its page. For offers like that, the calculator has nothing to add.

We never show casino offers to visitors in Ontario. The calculator works for any terms, including an Ontario-registered site's own, because it only uses the numbers you type. Bonuses do not change the house edge of a game; they change how much you must bet before you can withdraw. Play is for adults: 19+, or 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
