108 ways on an uneven grid

The reels are not the same height. Reels 1, 3 and 5 show three symbols, reels 2 and 4 show two, and the number of ways is the product: 3 x 2 x 3 x 2 x 3 = 108. Features can add rows, up to 20, and split symbols into two, which is how the way count climbs during a spin.

The paytable is split into two groups of five, Patients and Organs, and every value is paid per way, as a multiple of the bet:

Because these are per-way values, a single symbol paying on many ways at once can be worth far more than the figure in one cell. Even so, the plain paytable is small next to the cap. The large results come from the multipliers and the free spins described below.

Three symbols do the special work. The Wild replaces regular symbols but not the Scorpion, the Spider or the Dead Patient. The Scorpion lands on reels 1, 3 and 5 and starts free spins. The Spider drives the Mental Transform and decides which free spins round you get.

Bets

Nolimit City's game sheet lists stakes from EUR 0.20 to EUR 70 per spin. The demo shows a dollar sign with a default bet of $1.00; we could not confirm whether that is Canadian or US dollars. Real-money limits in Canadian dollars are set by each casino.

Finding the Mental slot at a Canadian casino

Thirty of the casinos we cover publish a provider list that includes Nolimit City. We did not find Mental named on any of those casinos' own pages when we checked, so the list above marks none of them as seen. A studio on a provider list is a reason to search the lobby, not proof that a 2021 title is live there.

Several of those 30 have a presence in a regulated province. Swiper Casino and BetNova list Nolimit City on their AGCO-registered Ontario sites, and Casino Days on its Ontario and Alberta sites. FireVegas lists it on its offshore site and runs separate Ontario and Alberta sites. The others on the list are offshore sites only.

Keep two points in mind when you check:

1. Each site has its own lobby. A brand's Ontario site and its offshore site are often run by different companies, so a game on one is not a game on the other.
2. The RTP version matters more than usual here. Mental exists at 96.08% and at 94.20%. Open the info screen after you find the game and read which one the site runs.

In Ontario, regulated play means a site registered with the AGCO with an iGaming Ontario operating agreement. In Alberta, it means a site registered with the AGLC with an AiGC agreement, live since 13 July 2026. In other provinces the provincial lottery corporation's site is the regulated option. Offshore casinos are not licensed by any province.

Fire Frames, Enhancer Cells and the Spider

Mental stacks several of Nolimit City's mechanics on top of each other. Taken one at a time, each is fairly simple.

Fire Frames

On a spin, between 1 and 13 random positions can be set alight. Any symbol that lands in a Fire Frame is split into two, which adds ways. Fire Frames also open the Enhancer Cells.

Enhancer Cells

Under reels 2 and 4 sit two cells. They open when four or six Fire Frames are in play, and each one reveals a symbol or mechanic: a Patient, a Dead Patient, xWays, xSplit, a Wild or an xNudge Wild.

Dead Patient

When two Dead Patient symbols land, they reveal a Patient symbol carrying a random multiplier between x5 and x9999.

Mental Transform

A Spider landing on reel 2 or 4 transforms into one of five things: xWays, xSplit, a Dead Patient, a Wild or a Patient.

The xMechanics

• xWays adds ways.
• xSplit splits symbols.
• xNudge Wilds grow their multiplier.

The game sheet gives a hit frequency of 34.19%, so roughly one spin in three pays something. With an Extreme rating, most of those wins are small, and the combinations above line up rarely.

Three free spins rounds, picked by Spiders

Free spins start with three Scorpions, which can only land on reels 1, 3 and 5. What decides the round is how many Spiders land on the same spin:

The rounds are ranked. Each step up adds a spin and a stronger form of persistence.

• Autopsy keeps the Fire Frames in place for all eight spins.
• Lobotomy keeps a Spider on the grid and carries the Dead Multiplier from spin to spin.
• Mental, the top round, keeps a Dead Multiplier count that can only rise.

The game sheet does not spell out every detail of how the Dead Multiplier is counted, and we do not fill that in from guesswork. The game's own rules screen covers it, and the demo is a good place to see it in action.

Two Spiders on the trigger spin gives the top round. The rules do not publish how often each round is triggered.

Two RTPs and an extreme rating

The game sheet lists two return figures:

• 96.08% - the default version.
• 94.20% - a second version labelled DX1.

The gap is almost two percentage points, which is large. On the lower version, the house edge is about 5.8% instead of about 3.9%, so the same session costs more on average. The casino decides which version it runs, and the info screen inside the game is the only reliable place to see it. Our guide to RTP versions explains how to read it.

Even the default sits slightly below the 96.5% that many slots we cover publish. If return is your main concern, our high-RTP list has better choices.

Extreme, on a ten-point scale

Nolimit City rates volatility on a scale of one to ten and gives Mental a 10, which it labels Extreme. That is the highest rating in the studio's own system and a clear warning about how sessions behave: long stretches of small or no wins, with most of the return held in rare, very large outcomes.

The hit frequency of 34.19% can look reassuring at first, because about one spin in three wins something. The rating tells you how little most of those wins are worth. Our volatility guide explains the labels, and the game appears in our high-volatility list.

66,666x, and how often

The stated maximum win is 66,666x the bet, one of the highest figures among the slots we cover. On the game sheet's bet range:

• EUR 13,333.20 at the EUR 0.20 minimum
• EUR 4,666,620 at the EUR 70 maximum

Nolimit City also says how rare that result is. The game sheet puts the chance of the maximum win at about 1 in 18 million spins.

To put it in perspective without inventing a session: a player would need on the order of 18 million spins, on average, to see the cap once. That is far more spins than any normal session. The cap is real, but for practical purposes it describes the shape of the game rather than a goal.

The more useful question is what the extreme rating means for your budget. A stake that allows a few hundred spins will often see none of the big features. Our guide to max win odds explains how to read a cap.

Buying in, Mental 2 and the demo

Mental offers a bonus buy menu with four entries: Autopsy, Lobotomy, Mental and Lucky Draw. Prices run from 80x to 1,000x the bet across those options. The game sheet gives the range rather than a price for each entry, so check the menu in the game for the exact cost at your stake. At the top of that range, one purchase costs as much as a thousand normal spins, and on a game rated 10 for volatility, a bought round can return far less than its price.
