Verdict

Valley of the Gods is a clear, single-feature slot: wins break blockers, earn respins and open the grid from 45 to 3,125 ways, with lives and a multiplier once it is clear. The RTP is 96.20% and volatility High, and it runs in the browser demo. Yggdrasil states the top prize only in euros, so win potential scores low.

Best for: Players who like one feature they can watch build on the grid, without buys or menus.

Skip if: You want free spins, a bonus buy or a top prize stated as a multiple of your bet.

What we like

  • One clear feature: every win breaks blockers and earns a respin
  • Grid opens from 45 to 3,125 ways
  • Extra lives and a growing multiplier after a cleared grid
  • Free demo in Canadian dollars

Watch out for

  • Top prize published only as EUR 580,000, not as a multiple
  • No free spins round and no bonus buy
  • Seen on only one covered casino's pages, which excludes Ontario

Valley of the Gods is a Yggdrasil slot from August 2017 that does without free spins altogether. It starts on a 5x5 grid with twelve blockers covering positions, which leaves 45 ways to win. Every winning spin breaks blockers and earns a respin, and if the chain clears the whole grid, the game opens up to 3,125 ways with extra lives and a win multiplier.

Yggdrasil publishes an RTP of 96.20% and rates the volatility High. This review walks through the respin chain, the red and blue scarabs, the euro-only top prize, the free demo in Canadian dollars and where we found the Valley of the Gods slot on a casino's pages in 2026.

Twelve blockers on a five-by-five grid

The grid has 25 positions. At the start, twelve of them are covered by blockers, scarab blocks that hold a position closed. That leaves 13 open positions and 45 ways to win. Symbols pay when three or more of a kind land on adjacent reels from the left, as on any ways slot.

The idea is that the grid starts small and the player earns it back. Every winning symbol releases a scarab, and each scarab breaks one blocker. With fewer blockers there are more open positions, and with more positions there are more ways, up to 3,125 when the grid is fully open.

The symbol set is short:

  • Four gods as the high-paying symbols.
  • Six hieroglyphics as the low-paying ones.
  • The blocker, which pays nothing and only covers a position until a win destroys it.

We have no sourced pay values for the individual symbols, so this page shows no symbol table; the paytable screen inside the game is the place to read them.

Bets

Every spin plays 25 coins. In the demo the coin value runs from C$0.004 to C$4.00, which puts the stake between C$0.10 and C$100 per spin. Real-money limits are set by each casino. There is no bonus buy: the game's own rules, version 1.0 from August 2017, mention none.

The Valley of the Gods slot in Canadian lobbies

Thirty-three of the casinos we cover publish a provider list that includes Yggdrasil, several of them shown above. A provider list says the studio's games are available, not that a nine-year-old title is still in the lobby, so we also looked for Valley of the Gods by name on each casino's pages.

One casino showed it: Qbet, whose Canadian online casino page named the game on 23 October 2026. Qbet's Tobique Gaming Commission seal read as valid in October 2026, and its Canadian terms also state a Curacao licence that we could not check on the register. Neither is a provincial licence, so no province regulates it. Its own terms also list Ontario and New Brunswick as restricted, so residents of those two provinces cannot use it at all.

Among the casinos with Yggdrasil on their provider list are three brands that also run Ontario sites: PlayOJO, Lucky Days and Knightslots. We have not seen Valley of the Gods on any of their pages, so treat that as a lead to check rather than a confirmed listing. A brand's Ontario site and its offshore site often have different operators and different lobbies.

How to check a lobby

  1. Search for "Valley of the Gods" and check that the provider shown is Yggdrasil.
  2. Open the game's info screen and confirm the RTP reads 96.20%.
  3. Confirm the site's licence fits your province: AGCO and iGaming Ontario in Ontario, AGLC and AiGC in Alberta, the provincial lottery site elsewhere.

How Valley of the Gods plays

Base game and bonus features as the provider's rules describe them.

  • Extra Lives clearing all blockers gives 1 life; +1 per 5 red scarabs; a life gives a respin on a losing respin
  • Win Multiplier clearing all blockers gives x2; +1 per 5 blue scarabs, applied to later respins

The respin chain, step by step

Valley of the Gods has one main feature, and it runs on every spin rather than being triggered. Here is how a chain plays out:

  1. A spin lands a win. The win is paid on the open ways.
  2. Each winning symbol releases a scarab. Each scarab destroys one of the remaining blockers, opening more positions and therefore more ways.
  3. A respin follows. Any winning spin awards a respin, played on the grid as it now stands.
  4. The chain continues while wins continue. Each new win breaks more blockers and earns another respin.
  5. A losing respin ends the chain, unless an extra life is available, as explained below.

Because blockers are only broken by wins, a long chain is the only way to reach the fully open 3,125-way grid, and every respin on a more open grid has more ways to land the next win.

Clearing the grid

Destroying all twelve blockers in one chain is the game's turning point. It gives two rewards at once: an extra life and a win multiplier of x2. From then on, the scarabs released by winning symbols matter in a different way, because their colour starts to count.

The structure explains the High volatility rating. Many spins are single losses on a 45-way grid; the bigger results come from rare chains that clear the grid and keep going with a multiplier.

Red scarabs, blue scarabs

Once the grid is clear, the game keeps counting the scarabs that winning symbols release, and the two colours do different jobs:

RewardOn clearing the gridAfterwards
Extra lives1 life+1 life for every 5 red scarabs
Win multiplierx2+1 for every 5 blue scarabs

Lives protect the chain. When a respin loses, a life is used instead of ending the sequence, and you get another respin. The more red scarabs a chain collects, the more losing respins it can survive.

The multiplier raises the value of later respins. It starts at x2 when the grid is cleared and goes up by one for every five blue scarabs, so x3, x4 and so on, applied to the wins of the respins that follow.

Together, the two counters make the end of a long chain the most valuable part of the game. A chain that clears the grid early and gathers both colours can keep running on a fully open grid with a rising multiplier. A chain that clears the grid and then loses straight away gets little from either.

None of this costs extra. There is no buy and no separate bonus round: the whole feature is earned through ordinary wins, which makes the game easy to learn in the demo and hard to rush.

Maths

RTP and volatility in dollars

Over a very long run, Valley of the Gods is set to pay back about C$96.20 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.80. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$19.00 - real sessions land far above or below that.

High volatility: long dry spells are normal; most of the return sits in rare big features.

96.20%, High, and a top prize in euros

Yggdrasil publishes one return, 96.20%, with no alternative versions listed. As with any slot, the casino's info screen is where you confirm the figure the site runs; our RTP versions guide explains why that check is worth a few seconds.

The volatility is rated High, which fits the design: most of the return sits in the uncommon chains that clear the grid. The game belongs in our high-volatility list for that reason.

The maximum win problem

Here is the gap in the published numbers. Yggdrasil gives the top prize only as a cash figure, EUR 580,000, on its game page, without stating it as a multiple of the bet or saying at which stake it applies. That makes it impossible to work out the cap at a given Canadian stake from the provider's own data, so we do not convert it. Our facts table shows the figure exactly as Yggdrasil states it.

For a player, the practical effect is that you cannot compare this game's ceiling directly with slots that publish an x-stake figure. If the size of the top win is the main thing you weigh, you are better served by games that state it clearly; see our guide to max win odds.

What the published figures do allow is a clear view of the trade-off. The return is slightly below the 96.5% that many slots we cover publish, and the volatility is high, so expect sessions that swing a long way in both directions around a small house edge.

A 2017 design in a 2026 lobby

Valley of the Gods dates from 2017, and next to today's multi-mode slots its simplicity shows in a good way. There is one stake, one feature and one rule set, and the whole game is visible on the grid. Compared with the newer titles in our new slots list, it asks very little of the player beyond watching the chain.

That simplicity has limits worth naming:

  • No way to speed things up. Without a buy, the only route to the cleared grid is a run of wins.
  • No classic bonus round. Players who wait for free spins will not find any here; the respin chain does that job.
  • A top prize stated only in euros, as described above.

Yggdrasil lists no related titles for the game. If what appeals to you is a grid that opens as you win, look at games where position and clusters matter in our cluster pays list. If it is the Egyptian theme with a single expanding feature, Book of Dead and Legacy of Dead take a different route to it: free spins in which a symbol expands to cover its reel.

Demo first, then the real thing

The free demo above is Yggdrasil's own build, set to Canadian dollars. It needs no account and starts on an intro screen before the first spin. Because the whole game is one feature, a few dozen demo spins give a fair sense of how often chains run and how rarely the grid clears.

Things worth watching in the demo:

  • how many blockers a typical first win breaks;
  • how often a chain reaches the cleared grid;
  • how lives and the multiplier change the final respins of a long chain.

Demo wins are play money and cannot be withdrawn.
