Verdict
Buffalo King Megaways is a straightforward Megaways slot done carefully: up to 200,704 ways, a Buffalo that pays from just two symbols, and free spins where wild multipliers add up and retriggers have no limit. RTP sits at 96.49% to 96.52% across modes. The High volatility and a 5,000x cap make it a game of long waits for one good bonus.
Best for: Players who like Megaways reels and a bonus that can keep retriggering, with RTP that barely moves between modes.
Skip if: You want a cap above 5,000x or frequent steady wins from the base game.

What we like
- Up to 200,704 ways, with an extra horizontal reel above reels 2 to 5
- The Buffalo pays from only two symbols, on a 6-reel Megaways grid
- Free spins retrigger with no limit: 3 or more bonus symbols add 5 spins
- RTP is 96.52% by default, 96.49% with the ante and 96.50% for the buy
Watch out for
- High volatility, so long runs without a bonus are normal
- Wild multipliers appear only in free spins
- The 5,000x cap is well below the 12,000x of The Dog House Megaways
Buffalo King Megaways is Pragmatic Play's April 2021 remake of its own Buffalo King, rebuilt on the Megaways engine licensed from Big Time Gaming. Reel heights change on every spin, giving up to 200,704 ways to win, and wins tumble away to make room for new symbols. The free spins carry wild multipliers that combine across a whole tumble sequence.
This Buffalo King Megaways review covers how the ways and the bonus work, what the three published RTP figures mean, what the 5,000x max win looks like in dollars and where Canadians can find the game. Try the free demo above in Canadian dollars before you read on.

Why the number of ways changes on every spin
A Megaways slot does not have fixed rows. On each spin, every reel lands with a random number of symbols, and the number of ways to win is the product of those reel heights. In Buffalo King Megaways the two outer reels, 1 and 6, show up to seven symbols each. Reels 2 to 5 show up to eight, counting one extra position on a horizontal reel that runs across the top of those four reels.
When every reel is at full height, the grid offers 200,704 ways. Pragmatic Play's game page rounds this to over 200,000; the exact figure comes from the game's own rules.
After every win, the Tumble feature removes the winning symbols and drops new ones into the gaps. One paid spin can therefore pay several times before the reels settle.
Megaways under licence
Megaways is Big Time Gaming's mechanic, used by Pragmatic Play under licence. The name on the lobby tile tells you the reel engine, not who made the game: this one is Buffalo King Megaways, Pragmatic Play's own title.
The prairie animals and what they pay
The paytable is short and easy to read. Five animals form the high symbols and card ranks from 10 to A fill the rest. The Buffalo is the only symbol that pays from two of a kind; every other symbol needs at least three.
| Symbol | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Buffalo | 1x | 2x | 4x | 10x | 20x |
| Eagle | - | 0.75x | 1.25x | 2.5x | 6.25x |
| Cougar | - | 0.5x | 0.75x | 1.25x | 3.75x |
| Wolf and Moose | - | 0.3x | 0.5x | 0.75x | 1.5x |
The values are multiples of the total bet, read from the demo's paytable. On a Megaways grid the same symbols can line up along more than one way at a time, so a single landing can be worth more than one table line. The wild, shown as a canyon, substitutes for everything except the bonus symbol and lands only on reels 2 to 5. The bonus symbol is the scatter that pays 5x to 100x and starts the free spins.
Stakes in dollars: from C$0.20 to C$300
The demo runs from C$0.20 to C$240 a spin, rising to C$300 with the ante bet. Real-money casinos set their own limits, so your account may show a narrower range. Every pay on this page is a multiple of the total bet, which makes it easy to convert at whatever stake you choose.
At the minimum stake of C$0.20, the figures look like this:
- Four bonus symbols pay 5x, or C$1, before the 12 free spins start.
- Six bonus symbols pay 100x, or C$20, and start 22 free spins.
- Six Buffalos on one way pay 20x, or C$4.
- The 5,000x cap equals C$1,000.
Raising the stake scales every one of these in proportion. It does not change how often anything happens; the trigger chance, the reel heights and the multipliers are the same at C$0.20 as at C$240. The only setting that changes the trigger chance is the ante bet, covered further down.
Casinos
Where to play Buffalo King Megaways
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Pragmatic Play; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.
Where to play Buffalo King Megaways: casino game lobbies we checked
Because it is a Pragmatic Play game, it can appear at any casino that runs that studio's titles. We note where the title itself was visible. On 23 October 2026 it appeared on these pages:
- High Flyer Casino, an Ontario-only site, on its homepage
- The Alberta site of PartyCasino, on its welcome-offer page
- The Canadian pages of LeoVegas, Lucky Days, Wildz, Spinz and Qbet
Where you may legally play depends on your province. In Ontario that means a site registered with the AGCO with an iGaming Ontario operating agreement. In Alberta, since 13 July 2026, it means AGLC registration and an AiGC agreement. Other provinces each run a government site, and offshore casinos are not licensed by any province. The minimum age is 19, or 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
A brand can run different sites in different provinces, each with its own game list. A sighting on one site says nothing certain about another, so search the lobby for the title before you deposit. Our Pragmatic Play hub lists more casinos with this studio.

Buffalo King Megaways free spins and the multiplier wilds
The Buffalo King Megaways bonus starts with four or more bonus symbols in one spin. The bonus symbols also pay on the trigger spin:
| Bonus symbols | Pays | Free spins |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | 5x | 12 |
| 5 | 20x | 17 |
| 6 | 100x | 22 |
During the Buffalo King Megaways free spins, every wild that lands carries a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x. The multipliers are added together into one value that applies to the whole tumble sequence, not just to the win the wild helped form. A sequence in which several multiplied wilds land therefore pays every one of its tumbles at the combined value.
Retriggers without a ceiling
Three or more bonus symbols during the round add five more free spins, and the rules set no limit on how often this can happen. Wilds still appear only on reels 2 to 5, which keeps the multipliers to the middle of the grid.
Because the multiplier belongs to the tumble sequence rather than to a single win, the most valuable moment in a round is a long chain in which several multiplied wilds land. A spin with one wild and no follow-up tumble pays only once at that wild's value.
Ante bet or buy: two ways to reach the bonus faster
The game offers two shortcuts to the free spins, and you cannot use both at once. Here is what each one costs, using the C$0.20 minimum stake of the demo:
| Option | Cost per spin | Effect | RTP listed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal spin | C$0.20 | Standard trigger chance | 96.52% |
| Ante bet | C$0.25 (1.25x) | Doubles the chance of free spins; buy switched off | 96.49% |
| Buy free spins | C$20 once (100x) | Starts the bonus at once | 96.50% |
The ante adds a quarter to every spin and slightly lowers the listed RTP. The buy keeps the RTP close to the default but turns 100 stakes into one result, which can come back as much less than it cost. Neither changes the odds in your favour; they change how quickly you spend and how your results are spread.
The demo shows the buy in its international build. Some builds, such as the UK one, leave it out, so if your casino's version has no buy button, that is the build it runs. The demo's top stake is C$240 a spin, or C$300 with the ante; real-money casinos set their own limits.
Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Buffalo King Megaways is set to pay back about C$96.52 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.48. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$17.40 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 96.49%, 96.50%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
High volatility: long dry spells are normal; most of the return sits in rare big features. The cap is 5,000x: C$5,000 on a C$1 spin.
RTP figures and the Buffalo King Megaways max win
Pragmatic Play gives three RTP figures for this game: 96.52% for normal play, 96.49% with the ante bet and 96.50% for the buy. The spread is only 0.03 percentage points, which is narrow. Long-run return is effectively the same whichever mode you pick, so the choice between them is about pace and budget rather than value.
RTP describes millions of spins, not one session. With a High volatility label from the game's own rules, a session can run well below the average for a long stretch before a strong bonus changes the picture. Our RTP versions guide explains how to confirm which figure a casino runs: open the game menu and read the rules screen.
The Buffalo King Megaways max win is 5,000x the stake. At the C$0.20 minimum that is C$1,000; at the C$240 base maximum it is C$1.2 million. The base-game paytable does not come close on its own: six Buffalos pay 20x per way. The cap needs a long free-spins round with large combined wild multipliers. Our max-win guide explains why caps of this kind are reached so rarely.
Play Buffalo King Megaways free before you pay
You can play Buffalo King Megaways free with the demo at the top of this page. It is Pragmatic Play's own version in Canadian dollars and runs in the browser, with play money, no account and no deposit. Its info screens carry the full rules and paytable, so it is a fair way to see whether the rhythm of a High volatility Megaways slot suits you.
- Watch the ways counter change between spins and see how often the grid reaches full height.
- Note how often two Buffalos on the first reels are enough for a small win.
- If you reach free spins, follow how the wild multipliers add up across one tumble sequence.
- Try the ante for a stretch and compare how often the bonus arrives.
Nothing won in the demo is real, and the demo cannot show how a real-money budget feels. Decide your limits before you open the game at a casino; our responsible gambling page lists help lines.

Buffalo King Megaways next to The Dog House Megaways
Pragmatic Play runs several Megaways titles, and the closest relative on our site is The Dog House Megaways. Both are six-reel Megaways games from the same studio, but their published numbers point in different directions:
| Buffalo King Megaways | The Dog House Megaways | |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum ways | 200,704 | 117,649 |
| Volatility | High | Medium |
| Default RTP | 96.52% | 96.55% |
| Max win | 5,000x | 12,000x |
| Bonus | Free spins with multiplier wilds, unlimited retriggers | Choice of Sticky or Raining Wilds |
The Buffalo game has more ways and a higher volatility label but the lower cap. Two other games share its name, Buffalo King and Buffalo King Untamed Megaways; they are separate titles with their own rules. Before you pick by name, check the loading screen and the rules: the RTP, cap and features differ between these games, and the figures on this page apply only to Buffalo King Megaways. If you want a Megaways game with a softer rhythm, The Dog House version's Medium label is the main reason to try it; if you want the bigger grid and accept long waits, stay with the Buffalo. Buffalo King Megaways questions
Pragmatic Play lists 96.52% for normal play, 96.49% with the ante bet and 96.50% for the buy. Casinos can run different settings, so open the rules screen inside the game to see which figure applies at your casino.
Four, five or six bonus symbols pay 5x, 20x or 100x and award 12, 17 or 22 free spins. In the round, wilds carry 2x, 3x or 5x multipliers that add up and apply to the whole tumble sequence. Three or more bonus symbols add five spins, with no limit.
The top win is 5,000x the stake. At the demo's smallest bet of C$0.20 that equals C$1,000. Reaching it needs a long free-spins round with large combined multipliers, which is rare.
Yes. The demo on this page is Pragmatic Play's own version with play money in Canadian dollars. No account or deposit is needed. Real-money casinos set their own bet limits and RTP version, and demo winnings cannot be withdrawn.
We saw it on the homepage of High Flyer Casino, an Ontario-only site, on 23 October 2026. Any Ontario site you use should be registered with the AGCO under an iGaming Ontario agreement. Search its lobby for the title before you deposit.
