Verdict
Gates of Olympus still earns its place: one simple rule (eight matching symbols anywhere), tumbles that chain, and orbs up to 500x that can land in the base game as well as the bonus. The RTP is 96.50% in every mode Pragmatic lists. The ceiling of 5,000x is modest next to its later sequels, and the in-game Medium label is lower than many sites claim, so judge the swings in the demo first.
Best for: Players who want a clear, fast scatter-pays slot with multipliers in the base game and a 96.50% RTP in every mode.
Skip if: You want a top prize above 5,000x - the 1000, Super Scatter and 2500 versions all go higher.

What we like
- Same 96.50% RTP in the base game, with the Ante Bet and with the 100x buy
- Multiplier orbs of 2x-500x can land in the base game, not only in free spins
- Free spins keep a running total multiplier that only grows
- Free demo in C$ from Pragmatic Play itself
Watch out for
- Top win of 5,000x is the lowest of the four Gates of Olympus games compared here
- Orbs only count when the same tumble sequence produces a win
- Bonus buy is off while the Ante Bet is on, and may be hidden in some regions
Gates of Olympus is the Pragmatic Play game built on a 6x5 grid of gems with Zeus floating beside it. It launched in February 2021 and pays for eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the screen, with multiplier orbs from 2x to 500x that can land on any spin.
This page covers the gates of olympus game the way a player meets it: the free demo at the top, what the tumble and the orbs actually do, how the free spins round builds, what the Ante Bet and the 100x buy cost at the C$0.20 minimum, and which casinos open to Canadians had the title in their lobby when we checked. Every figure comes from the game's own rules, not from casino marketing.

Gates of Olympus slot guide: reading the grid
The board is six reels by five rows, 30 positions in all, and there are no paylines to learn. A win needs eight or more of the same symbol anywhere on the screen. Pay steps come in three bands: 8-9 symbols, 10-11 symbols and 12 or more.
The paytable is short. Nine regular symbols split into four "treasure" pieces (crown, hourglass, ring, chalice) and five gems. The crown is the top regular symbol: 10x the total bet for 8-9 on screen, 25x for 10-11 and 50x for 12 or more. At the other end, the blue gem pays 0.25x, 0.75x and 2x for the same three bands.
That spread tells you something useful: gem wins are small on their own. The larger results in this slot come from two places:
- Chains of tumbles that keep paying within one spin.
- Multiplier orbs that boost the total of that chain.
Zeus is the scatter. Four on screen pay 3x, five pay 5x and six or more pay 100x the bet, and four or more also open the free spins. Because scatter pays count anywhere too, a Zeus win stacks on top of whatever the gems and treasures paid on the same spin.
Casinos
Where to play Gates of Olympus
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Pragmatic Play; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.
Online casino Gates of Olympus: where we found it
The list above shows casinos whose published provider list includes Pragmatic Play. A smaller group had Gates of Olympus itself in the top-games row of their own site when we checked:
- Rainbet Casino, Casino Days, Pinnacle Casino, Lucky Days Casino and Pickwin Casino on 23 October 2026.
- The Alberta sites of BetMGM Casino and TonyBet Casino on 23 October 2026.
- Casumo Casino, in an archived copy of its Canadian homepage from 23 September 2026.
A gates of olympus casino listing tells you where the title is offered, not that every site runs the same version. Open the game's info screen at your casino and check the RTP before you stake real money.
Which site you can legally use depends on your province
In Ontario, real-money play is regulated through sites registered with the AGCO that hold an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Alberta opened its regulated market on 13 July 2026: those sites are registered with the AGLC and have an agreement with AiGC. In the other provinces the province runs its own site, and offshore casinos are not licensed by any province. You must be 19 or older, or 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. The legal online casinos page explains the differences.

Tumbles and orbs: the part that is easy to misread
After every win, the winning symbols vanish and new ones drop into the gaps. If the refill makes a fresh win, it pays and the process repeats. One paid spin can therefore become a run of several wins, and the game treats the whole run as one "tumble sequence".
Multiplier symbols are coloured orbs carrying a random value between 2x and 500x. They can appear on any spin or tumble, in the base game and in free spins. The rule that matters is how they are applied: every orb on screen at the end of the sequence is added together, and that sum multiplies the total win of the sequence.
Two consequences follow:
- An orb on a spin with no win does nothing. A 100x orb next to a dead board pays zero.
- Orbs are added, not multiplied with each other. Two orbs on the same sequence give the sum of their values, not their product.
Adding rather than multiplying keeps orb totals in proportion, and the 5,000x cap sets the ceiling whatever the orbs add up to. The first point explains the feel of the base game: an orb can land and pay nothing, and the spins that matter are the ones where a chain and a big orb meet. The demo is the cheapest way to see that rhythm before any real money is involved.
Gates of Olympus free spins: how the round builds
Four or more Zeus scatters award 15 free spins. In the round, the orbs work differently from the base game, and this is the change that makes the feature worth waiting for.
Whenever a free spin ends with a win and orbs on the screen, their values are added to a running total multiplier. That total then applies to that spin's win and stays for the rest of the round. It never resets during the feature, so a total built early keeps boosting every later winning spin.
Retriggers
Three or more scatters during the round add five more spins, so a round can run past the first 15.
What the round cannot do
A big running total is worthless without wins to multiply, and spins with no win add nothing to it. And whatever the total, wins are capped at 5,000x the stake. Those two limits keep the round in proportion: it is the main source of the large wins, but it does not promise one.

Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Gates of Olympus is set to pay back about C$96.50 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.50. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$17.50 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 96.50%, 96.50%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
Medium volatility: a mix of small wins and occasional bigger features. The cap is 5,000x: C$5,000 on a C$1 spin.
Ante Bet or Buy Free Spins: the cost at the minimum stake
Two optional modes change how you reach the free spins. Neither changes the long-run return: the game lists 96.50% for the base game, for the Ante Bet and for Buy Free Spins alike.
| Mode | What it does | Cost at the C$0.20 minimum |
|---|---|---|
| Standard spin | Free spins trigger naturally with 4+ scatters | C$0.20 a spin |
| Ante Bet | Bet multiplier rises from 20x to 25x (1.25x stake); doubles the natural chance of free spins | C$0.25 a spin |
| Buy Free Spins | Pays 100x the bet for the round; four scatters guaranteed on the trigger spin | C$20 per purchase |
The two cannot be combined: switching the Ante Bet on disables the buy. The highest base stake is C$240, or C$300 a spin with the Ante Bet.
A buy compresses the variance of waiting into one large stake. At 100x, a single purchase costs as much as 100 standard spins, and a round can still finish below that price. If you use it, treat every purchase as one big bet and size your budget accordingly. Our bonus buy slots page lists other games where this option exists.
One practical note: the buy button depends on the rules the demo server applies for your region. Under UK rules it is hidden; under the international setting it appears. We could not confirm which version a Canadian visitor gets, so do not be surprised if the option is missing.
Medium or high volatility? Why the label differs
Many sites call this game high volatility. The game's own rules say Medium. Pragmatic Play now uses a three-step scale (Low, Medium, High), and Gates of Olympus sits in the middle step under both the UK and the international setting. Many reviews quote an older one-to-five rating instead, which is where the higher figure comes from.
We go with what the game says. For comparison, the 1000 and 2500 versions, with larger orbs and higher caps, carry the High label in their own rules.
What the label does not change is the shape of the wins. A slot where the large results depend on orbs meeting a tumble chain will still have long stretches of small returns. If you want to understand what a volatility label can and cannot tell you, our volatility guide explains it.
The top prize helps frame the risk. At 5,000x, a C$0.20 spin can return at most C$1,000, and a spin at the C$240 base maximum at most C$1.2 million. The cap is a limit, not an expected result; our page on max-win odds explains why the headline number is a ceiling, not a target.

The Olympus family: how the sequels compare
Pragmatic Play has built a whole line on this grid. Three of the follow-ups have their own pages here, and the differences are larger than the shared artwork suggests:
| Game | Released | Default RTP | Volatility label | Orb range | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gates of Olympus | Feb 2021 | 96.50% | Medium | 2x-500x | 5,000x |
| Gates of Olympus 1000 | Dec 2023 | 96.50% | High | 2x-1,000x | 15,000x |
| Gates of Olympus Super Scatter | Apr 2025 | 96.50% | Medium | 2x-500x | 50,000x |
| Gates of Olympus 2500 | Sep 2026 | 96.52% | High | 2x-2,500x | 25,000x |
The original gates of olympus slot game is the simplest of the four: one bonus type, one optional Ante Bet and a single 100x buy. The 1000 version keeps the same structure with larger orbs and a higher cap. Super Scatter adds a special scatter: four of them, with at least four scatters on screen, pay 50,000x the base bet. The 2500 version adds a wheel that picks between four kinds of free spins and several stake-raising modes.
If you like the original's pace and want more room at the top, the 1000 is the closest step up. More games from the same studio are on our Pragmatic Play page.
Gates of Olympus strategy: what holds up and what does not
Players often look for a gates of olympus slot strategy, or for gates of olympus how to win tips. The honest answer is short: every spin is random, the RTP is fixed by the version the casino runs, and no betting pattern, timing or bet size changes the odds of an orb or a scatter landing.
What you can control is how much you spend and how you spend it. These gates of olympus slot tips are about cost, not about beating the game:
- Check the RTP in the game's info screen. The default is 96.50%. Casinos can choose which version they run, so confirm it before playing for money. Our RTP versions guide shows where to look.
- Know the price of each mode. The Ante Bet adds 25% to every spin; a buy costs 100 spins at once.
- Set a session budget and a stop. Medium label or not, this game can go a long time between good orbs.
- Use the demo for the feel, not for "testing a system". Demo results are as random as real ones and prove nothing about the next session.
- Use the limits your casino offers. Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are on our responsible gambling page.
Gates of Olympus promo offers and casino free spins
We list no gates of olympus promo on this page as of October 2026. Free spins or a bonus tied to the game are a casino's own promotion, with that casino's own terms. When a casino advertises gates of olympus free spins, the details that decide their value are in the small print:
- Spin value. Check the stake each free spin is played at. On this game the lowest possible is C$0.20.
- Wagering. If winnings arrive as bonus money, the terms say how many times it must be wagered before withdrawal. Our wagering calculator turns a requirement into the real amount you would need to play through.
- Max cashout and expiry. A cap on what you can withdraw, or a short deadline, can matter more than the number of spins.
- Game restrictions. Some offers apply to one title only; check that it is this one, not a sequel.
We do not list a specific offer for this game on this page because offers change faster than the game does. Current casino offers are collected on our free spins and casino bonuses pages, each with its terms. If you only want to try the game without any of this, the gates of olympus demo above needs no account and no deposit.
Gates of Olympus questions
Yes. The demo at the top of this page is Pragmatic Play's own version, running with play money in Canadian dollars. You need no account and no deposit, and nothing you win in it can be withdrawn. It uses the same rules as the real-money game, so it is a fair way to see how the orbs and free spins behave.
The game's rules list 96.50% for the base game, for the Ante Bet and for Buy Free Spins. That is the default version; casinos can choose which version they run, so the safe habit is to open the info screen in the game at your casino and check the figure before you play for money.
Four or more Zeus scatters award 15 free spins. Orbs that land on a winning free spin add their value to a running total multiplier, which then applies to that win and every later winning spin in the round. Three or more scatters during the round add five more spins.
No. Every spin is random and the return is set by the version the casino runs. Bet size, timing and patterns do not change the odds. What you can manage is cost: the Ante Bet adds 25% to each spin, and a buy costs 100 times the bet at once.
The cap is 5,000 times the stake. On the C$0.20 minimum bet that is C$1,000; at higher stakes it scales the same way. Treat it as a ceiling rather than a goal.
