Verdict
Sugar Rush Xmas is Sugar Rush in holiday colours: a 7x7 cluster grid, tumbles and multiplier spots that double to x128 and stay put through free spins. RTP is 96.50% in normal play and on the 100x buy, volatility is high and the cap is 5,000x. It is easy to learn, the browser demo works, and the swings can be large.

The Sugar Rush Xmas slot is Pragmatic Play's November 2023 holiday version of Sugar Rush. It plays on a 7x7 grid where clusters of five or more matching sweets pay, and every spot a winning symbol explodes on can turn into a multiplier that doubles up to x128. Its rules and paytable match the original; the change is the Christmas artwork.
This page covers how the multiplier spots build, why free spins are where they matter most, the 100x buy and the builds that hide it, what the 5,000x cap means at real stakes, the Sugar Rush Xmas demo, and where to play it in Canada. Every number here was read from the provider's product page or the demo's rules screens on 28 October 2026.

Sugar Rush Xmas slot: the same sweets in new wrapping
If you know Sugar Rush, you already know how this game works. The rules and paytable of Sugar Rush Xmas match those of the original Sugar Rush, under a festive skin. The RTP is 96.50%, the volatility label in the game's rules is High, and the top win is 5,000x the bet.
The grid has no paylines. Instead, a win needs five or more identical symbols touching horizontally or vertically. Diagonal contact does not count. Winning clusters then disappear in a tumble, new symbols drop into the gaps, and the process repeats until no new cluster forms.
The symbols are seven sweets plus a Scatter:
- three high-value sweets: a pink lollipop, an orange heart and a purple jelly bean;
- a green star;
- three gummy bears in red, purple and orange, the orange one dressed as a reindeer;
- a Scatter drawn as a snow-capped gumball machine with baubles.
The Scatter pays nothing on its own; its job is to start free spins. It can land on any reel. There is no ante bet in this game, so the only way to change your cost per spin is the stake itself, which runs from C$0.20 to C$240 in the demo. Casinos set their own limits for real-money play.
Casinos
Where to play Sugar Rush Xmas
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Pragmatic Play; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.
Where to play Sugar Rush Xmas in Canada
The casinos above are listed because their published provider list includes Pragmatic Play, which is the only route this game takes to a casino lobby. Holiday titles are easy to mix up, so search for "Sugar Rush Xmas" by its full name; the original Sugar Rush, Sugar Rush 1000 and Sugar Rush Super Scatter may sit beside it.
Before you deposit, match the casino to your province:
- Ontario licenses online casinos that are registered with the AGCO and have signed an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. The age is 19+.
- Alberta has a regulated market since 13 July 2026, with operators registered by the AGLC under an AiGC agreement. The age is 18+.
- Other provinces run their own sites. The age is 19+, or 18+ in Manitoba and Quebec.
No province licenses the offshore sites that take Canadian sign-ups, and a provincial self-exclusion reaches only that province's regulated operators. Compare the routes on our legal online casinos page, while the Pragmatic Play hub lists all the casinos we cover with the provider.
Inside the game, check the information screen. It shows the RTP the casino runs and whether the Buy Free Spins button is present in that build.
Features
How Sugar Rush Xmas plays
Base game and bonus features as the provider's rules describe them.
- Tumble Winning clusters disappear and new symbols fall in until no new win.
- Multiplier spots A spot where a winning symbol explodes is marked; the next explosion there adds a x2 multiplier that doubles each time up to x128. Multipliers in one win add together. In the base game spots reset when the tumble sequence ends.
- Free spins 3/4/5/6/7 scatters award 10/12/15/20/30 free spins; marked spots and multipliers stay for the whole round; 3-7 scatters in the round add 10/12/15/20/30 more. Special reels in play.
- Max win cap wins are capped at 5,000x bet; a free spins round that reaches it ends immediately.
- Buy Free Spins 100x total bet; 3-7 scatters land randomly on the trigger spin.

How the multiplier spots build
The feature that defines this game lives on the grid itself rather than on the symbols. Here is how a single position develops when winning symbols keep exploding on it:
| Explosion on the same spot | What the spot shows |
|---|---|
| 1st | Marked, no multiplier yet |
| 2nd | x2 |
| 3rd | x4 |
| 4th | x8 |
| 5th | x16 |
| 6th | x32 |
| 7th | x64 |
| 8th and later | x128, the maximum |
When a winning cluster covers more than one multiplier spot, the multipliers are added together, not multiplied, and the total is applied to that win.
In the base game the marks are temporary. Once a tumble sequence ends with no new win, every spot resets and the next paid spin starts on a clean grid. That makes high base game multipliers hard to build: a spot needs the same position to be part of a win again and again within one chain of tumbles.
The key point for players is simple. In the base game, multipliers are a bonus within one spin. In free spins, as the next section explains, they are the whole game.
Why cluster size matters more than symbol choice
Cluster pays reward size steeply. The paytable runs from clusters of five up to fifteen or more, and the jump at the top end is far larger than at the bottom. Take the three best sweets:
| Cluster size | Pink lollipop | Orange heart | Purple jelly bean |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 1x | 0.75x | 0.5x |
| 10 | 5x | 4x | 3x |
| 13 | 35x | 30x | 20x |
| 15+ | 150x | 100x | 60x |
Two things stand out. A cluster of five pays at most the stake back, so small clusters mainly matter for the tumbles and spot marks they leave behind. And a cluster of 15 or more pays 150 times as much as a cluster of five of the same lollipop.
Because each explosion also marks the grid, a large cluster does double work: it pays more now and leaves more marked spots for the next tumble. That link between size and multipliers is the heart of the game, and it is the same in the original Sugar Rush.
Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Sugar Rush Xmas is set to pay back about C$96.50 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.50. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$17.50 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 96.50%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
High volatility: long dry spells are normal; most of the return sits in rare big features. The cap is 5,000x: C$5,000 on a C$1 spin.
The 5,000x cap at real stakes
Sugar Rush Xmas caps wins at 5,000x the bet, and a free spins round that reaches the cap ends immediately. Using the demo's bet range, the ceiling looks like this:
| Stake | Maximum win |
|---|---|
| C$0.20 | C$1,000 |
| C$2.00 | C$10,000 |
| C$240 | C$1,200,000 |
Those are limits, not expectations. Regular cluster pays are much smaller. The best symbol, the pink lollipop, pays 1x the bet for a cluster of five and climbs to 150x for fifteen or more. The orange gummy bear pays 0.2x for five. A single cluster can only pay more than 150x the bet with multiplier spots behind it, which is why free spins, where spots persist, carry the biggest results.
The RTP is 96.50% for normal play and 96.50% for the buy, according to both the rules and the game data. Over a very long run, that leaves a theoretical house edge of 3.50% of everything wagered. High volatility means individual sessions can land far from that average in either direction, and losing runs are part of the design.
Our guides on volatility and max win odds explain how to size a stake for a game like this.

Sugar Rush Christmas and the rest of the family
You may see it called Sugar Rush Christmas, but the official title is Sugar Rush Xmas. It sits in a small family that Pragmatic Play lists as related:
- Sugar Rush, the original with the same maths and paytable.
- Sugar Rush 1000.
- Sugar Rush Super Scatter.
- Sweet Bonanza Xmas, another of the provider's candy-themed Christmas games.
Choosing between Sugar Rush and the Xmas version is purely a matter of taste, since the numbers are identical. For the other versions, see each family member's own page, where every figure comes from that game's rules. For another holiday reskin that keeps its original maths, see Christmas Big Bass Bonanza.
Seasonal or not, the risk is the same. Set a spending limit before you play; the tools on our responsible gambling page can help.
Free spins: where the spots stay
Three to seven Scatters anywhere start free spins. The number of spins depends on how many land:
| Scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 12 |
| 5 | 15 |
| 6 | 20 |
| 7 | 30 |
The same table applies to retriggers: three to seven Scatters during the round add 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 more spins.
The big change is that marked spots and their multipliers stay for the whole round. They do not reset after each tumble sequence. A spot that reached x8 on the second free spin is still x8 at the start of the third, and it keeps doubling as more wins explode on it. The rules also mention special reels in play during free spins, without detailing how they differ.
Because the spots persist, a round in which multipliers spread across the grid early can build quickly; a round in which wins land in different places each time may finish with little to show. Both are normal outcomes, and the game's 5,000x cap ends any round that reaches it.

The Sugar Rush Xmas demo and the buy button
Pragmatic Play hosts a free Sugar Rush Xmas demo that runs in the browser with a C$ play balance. It was working when checked on 28 October 2026.
The demo also shows how builds differ. Opened from Spain without any setting, the demo server applied the UK build, in which Buy Free Spins is hidden. With the international setting, the button appeared at C$200 for a C$2 bet, which is the 100x price the rules state. When you buy, three to seven Scatters land at random on the trigger spin, so a bought round can start with anything from 10 to 30 spins.
Which build Canadian casinos get is something we have not verified, so look for the button rather than assuming it is there.
Good uses for the demo:
- watch how often a spot reaches x8 or beyond in the base game, then compare that with a free spins round;
- try the buy with play money before you consider paying 100 bets for it;
- confirm the 96.50% RTP and High label in the rules of the build you receive.

Sugar Rush Xmas questions
Yes, and it is free to open: Pragmatic Play hosts it in the browser, credits a play balance in Canadian dollars and asks for no sign-up. It was working when checked on 28 October 2026. Depending on the build your browser receives, the Buy Free Spins button may or may not appear.
In maths, yes. The rules and paytable match Sugar Rush, with a Christmas skin: 96.50% RTP, High volatility and a 5,000x cap. The symbols are redrawn, including a reindeer gummy bear and a snow-capped gumball machine Scatter.
The game's own rules label it High volatility. In practice that means the return is spread unevenly: long runs of small or no wins are normal, and much of the value sits in rarer free spins rounds where multiplier spots build up. Set your stake with that in mind.
Each spot can reach x128. A spot is marked on the first explosion, shows x2 on the second and doubles each time after that. Multipliers in one winning cluster are added together. In the base game they reset after each tumble sequence; in free spins they stay for the whole round.
Where the feature is enabled, the price is 100x the total bet and the RTP stays at 96.50%. Three to seven Scatters land at random on the trigger spin. The UK build hides the button, and a casino's version may leave it out, so check inside the game.
5,000x the bet. A free spins round that reaches the cap ends at once. At the demo's lowest bet of C$0.20 that is C$1,000; at C$2.00 it is C$10,000. Treat the cap as a ceiling, not a target.
