Verdict
A solid medium-volatility fishing slot that splits its bonus value between a respin round and free spins, so the base game has a bonus of its own. The 96.07% default RTP and 10,000x cap are both published by the provider. Two 100x buys exist; the Ante Bet costs 50% more per spin and switches off the free-spins buy.
Best for: Players who like the Big Bass free spins but want a second, quicker bonus route in the base game.
Skip if: You want a top win above 10,000x or you dislike paying 100x for a bonus.

What we like
- Two separate bonus rounds: Hold & Spinner respins and fisherman free spins
- Money symbols worth 1x to 2,000x the base bet in the respin round
- Default RTP 96.07% and a 10,000x cap, both stated by the provider
- Free demo runs in Canadian dollars with the full rules inside
Watch out for
- Each bonus buy costs 100x the base bet
- Ante Bet raises the stake by 50% and disables Buy Free Spins
- Retriggers stop after three, so the 10x collection multiplier is the ceiling
Plenty of people type big bass bonanza hold and spinner slot into a search bar, but the game's real name, as Pragmatic Play prints it, is Big Bass - Hold & Spinner. It arrived in March 2023 from Reel Kingdom, whose logo sits on the loading screen, and it runs on a 5x3 grid with 10 paylines.
The reason to look at it is simple: it gives you two different bonus rounds instead of one. Three money symbols start a respin round in the base game, while scatters lead to free spins where the fisherman collects fish values. Below we explain both, put the buy prices into Canadian dollars using the game's own bet limits, and list where you can find Pragmatic Play titles in Canada.

What the name means and who made it
The title causes some confusion. Pragmatic Play's game page and the demo both call it Big Bass - Hold & Spinner, while the launch news from 27 March 2023 drops the dash. Searches like big bass bonanza hold spinner slot or plain big bass bonanza hold spinner all point to this one game, not to the original Big Bass Bonanza. There is also a separate Megaways edition of Hold & Spinner listed among the related titles, so check the full name in the lobby before you load it.
The studio is Reel Kingdom. Pragmatic Play's news post only names Pragmatic, but the demo shows the Reel Kingdom logo and label. In practice that means two things for a Canadian player:
- Pragmatic Play distributes the game, so look for it among a casino's Pragmatic Play titles.
- The casino chooses which RTP build runs. Pragmatic's rules list an RTP for the base game, the Ante Bet and each buy (more on that below), and the info screen inside the game shows the one you are on.
The layout is deliberately plain: five reels, three rows, ten fixed lines. Line wins pay left to right in the usual way, and the float symbol is the top regular payer at 200x the bet for five on a line. Most of the game's potential sits in the two features rather than in line hits, which is why the next sections spend more time on them than on the paytable.
Casinos
Where to play Big Bass - Hold & Spinner
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Pragmatic Play; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.
Finding it at Canadian casinos
The list above shows casinos whose published provider lists include Pragmatic Play. That is a strong hint, not a guarantee: a casino can carry a provider without carrying every title. Search the lobby for "Hold & Spinner" before you deposit.
Ontario
The legal options are the province's own OLG site and sites registered with the AGCO that operate under an agreement with iGaming Ontario. The provider lists we checked for OLG and for the Ontario sites of BetMGM, FanDuel and Jackpot City name Pragmatic Play. Minimum age is 19.
Alberta
Alberta's regulated market opened on 13 July 2026: operators register with the AGLC and sign an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. The Alberta sites of BetMGM and FanDuel list Pragmatic Play. You must be 18.
Other provinces
Outside those two provinces, the regulated choice is the site your province itself runs. Offshore casinos such as Spin Casino or PlayOJO also list Pragmatic on their offshore sites, but offshore sites are not licensed by any province. Age is 19, or 18 in Manitoba and Quebec. Our legal online casinos page explains the rules province by province.
Five checks before a real-money session
The demo and the real game share the same rules, but a few settings can differ once real money is involved. These are the points worth checking in the first minute, all of them visible inside the game itself.
- The RTP line in the info screen. Look for 96.07%. The rules list it alongside the 96.09% Ante Bet figure; if a casino shows something else, it is running a different build. Our RTP versions guide explains why that happens.
- Whether the buy buttons are there. Both buys cost 100x the base bet. If you plan to use one, confirm it is offered before you deposit.
- The Ante Bet toggle. It raises every spin by half. Turn it on only if you accept that Buy Free Spins disappears with it.
- The bet range. The C$0.10 to C$250 limits come from the demo. Your casino may set a different minimum or maximum.
- Your bonus terms. If you play with a deposit bonus, read its maximum bet and game rules first. The casino bonuses page covers the terms that matter for slots.
Together they decide what each spin costs, which RTP build you are on and which features you can reach.

Two bonus routes, side by side
Here the money symbols do their own job in the base game, separate from free spins. This table puts the two rounds next to each other, using only the rules from the demo's help pages.
| Detail | Hold & Spinner | Free spins |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | 3 money symbols (coins or diamonds) in the base game | 3, 4 or 5 fish scatters |
| Length | 4 respins, reset to 4 by each new money symbol | 10, 15 or 20 spins |

| Buy price | 100x the base bet | 100x the base bet |
How the respin round plays out
When three coins or diamonds land, everything else clears and you get four respins. Only money symbols stay on the grid during the round. Each new one locks in place and sends the counter back to four, so a run of fresh symbols can stretch the round for a long time. When the counter finally reaches zero, the game adds up every value on the grid and pays the total. Nothing is paid mid-round, so do not judge the result until the last respin is gone.
Pragmatic does not publish how often either round triggers, so we cannot put a number on it. What the rules do say is that the Ante Bet raises the chance of the respin round, which is covered further down.
Inside the free spins: the fisherman's collection ladder
The free-spins round is where the 10,000x ceiling lives. Fish symbols carry money values from 2x up to 10,000x the base bet during the feature, but they only pay when a fisherman wild lands on the same spin and collects them. The wild appears in free spins only and replaces every symbol except the scatter and the money symbols.
Every fisherman you land is also counted. The count drives the round's progression:
- Start: wilds collect fish values at 1x.
- 4th wild collected: 10 more free spins, and collected values are doubled from then on.
- 8th wild collected: 10 more spins, multiplier 3x.
- 12th wild collected: 10 more spins, multiplier 10x. This is the third and last retrigger.
The jump from 3x to 10x on the final level is the big one, and it is why a long round can swing so far from a short one. There is also a random extra: at the end of a free spin that has a wild on screen, the game can drop fish money symbols onto random positions, which gives that wild something to collect when the reels alone gave it nothing.
What this means for your balance
Because fish only pay when a wild lands with them, many free spins pay little or nothing. The round is front-loaded with waiting and back-loaded with value. If you buy it, expect results that vary a lot from one round to the next. That is normal for this design, and the medium volatility label from the in-game rules is a description of the whole game, not a promise about any one bonus.
Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Big Bass - Hold & Spinner is set to pay back about C$96.07 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.93. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$19.65 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 96.09%, 96.07%, 96.07%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
Medium volatility: a mix of small wins and occasional bigger features. The cap is 10,000x: C$10,000 on a C$1 spin.
Ante Bet and the two buys in Canadian dollars
The demo's limits run from a C$0.10 base bet to C$250. Real-money limits are set by each casino, so treat these as the game's own range rather than a promise about any site. Using only those two figures, this is what the optional extras cost.
| Option | At C$0.10 base bet | At C$250 base bet |
|---|---|---|
| Normal spin | C$0.10 | C$250 |
| Spin with Ante Bet (1.5x) | C$0.15 | C$375 |
| Buy Free Spins (100x) | C$10 | C$25,000 |
| Buy Hold & Spinner (100x) | C$10 | C$25,000 |
| Top win (10,000x) | C$1,000 | C$2,500,000 |
The Ante Bet changes the bet multiplier from 10x to 15x. In return you get more scatters and a better chance of the respin round, and the RTP rises slightly from 96.07% to 96.09%. The catch: Buy Free Spins is switched off while Ante Bet is on. Both buys run at 96.07%, the same as the regular game.
Buy buttons depend on the build a casino runs. If the version in front of you shows none, the option is simply not offered there.
Before paying 100x for any bonus, read our guide to bonus-buy slots and check whether the terms of any casino bonus you hold allow buys at all. The wagering calculator shows how far a bonus balance really goes.

Who it suits, and how it fits the series
This is a game for players who enjoy the fisherman mechanic but find it slow to wait for free spins alone. The respin round adds a second target in the base game, and the money symbols there can reach 2,000x the base bet each. If you already know Big Bass Splash or Bigger Bass Splash, the free spins will feel familiar; the Hold & Spinner round is the part to learn.
It suits you less if you chase the largest possible top win. The 10,000x cap is fixed by the provider. Other entries such as Big Bass Splash 1000 publish their own caps and RTP figures, so compare each game's numbers rather than assuming the series shares them.
A sensible way to start is the free demo above. It runs in Canadian dollars with play money and includes all eight rules pages, so you can watch a few respin rounds, see how often fish appear without a wild, and decide whether the Ante Bet is worth 50% more per spin before you stake real money. For other games with a lock-and-respin round, browse our hold and win slots, and for the rest of the studio's output see Pragmatic Play.
Whatever you play, set a budget first. Slots have a built-in house edge, and our responsible gambling page lists the tools and helplines available in Canada.
Big Bass - Hold & Spinner questions
Yes. Pragmatic Play's official title is Big Bass - Hold & Spinner, released in March 2023; the demo carries the Reel Kingdom logo. Players often add the word Bonanza when searching, but it is not part of the name. A separate Megaways edition exists, so check the full title in the lobby.
The default RTP is 96.07%. The in-game rules also list 96.09% with Ante Bet on, and 96.07% for both bonus buys. The casino decides which build it runs, and the game's info screen shows the figure for the version you are playing.
Land three money symbols, coins or diamonds, in the base game. You get four respins in which only money symbols stay on the grid. Each new one resets the counter to four, and all values, from 1x to 2,000x the base bet each, are paid when the respins run out.
