Verdict
Chaos Crew has a simple, original bonus: reel values built by a skull that adds and a cat that multiplies, with Epic versions that hit every reel. Hacksaw rates it 5 of 5 for volatility and caps wins at 10,000x, reachable only in free spins. The default RTP is 96.30%, but versions at 92.40% and 88.40% exist, so check the info screen before you play.
Best for: Players who want a short, punchy bonus round with a clear add-and-multiply mechanic and accept very high swings.
Skip if: You want frequent base-game wins - it is rated 5 of 5 and its top prize is only reachable in free spins.

What we like
- Clear bonus mechanic: skulls add, cats multiply, Epic versions affect every reel
- Free spins reset to 3 every time a winning symbol lands
- Top prize of 10,000x the stake
- Hacksaw publishes its own volatility rating (5 of 5)
Watch out for
- Lower RTP versions at 92.40% and 88.40%
- The buy's RTP of 95.92% sits below the default
- Max win can only be reached in free spins
Chaos Crew is a Hacksaw Gaming slot with a street-art look: graffiti tags as low symbols, a tentacle tag at the top of the paytable, and two troublemakers, Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull, who drive the bonus. It runs on a 5x5 grid with 15 paylines, and Hacksaw rates its volatility at the top of its own scale, 5 out of 5.
The free spins are unusual. Instead of collecting line wins, the round builds a value under each reel: the skull adds to it, the cat multiplies it, and at the end the values are added up and paid as a multiple of the bet. The top prize is 10,000 times the stake, and it can only be reached in that round. This page explains how it works, which RTP version to look for and what the 129x buy costs.

Chaos Crew on the reels: 15 lines, three tiers
The base game is a 5x5 grid with 15 fixed paylines. If you look up the game on Hacksaw's own site, you may see a conflict: the introduction says 15 paylines, while the data block lower on the page says 19. The rules inside the game state "The number of possible lines in this game is 15", and the game server's line set has 15 lines, so 15 is correct.
Pays fall into three tiers. The figures below are total-bet multiples for a line of three, four or five:
| Symbol group | x3 | x4 | x5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tentacle art | 2x | 7x | 12x |
| Moth, brain, apple skull | 1x | 2x | 5x |
| Five graffiti-tag symbols (8-ball, skull, smiley, X, tag) | 0.15x | 0.30x | 1x |
The top regular symbol pays 12x for five of a kind. That is a low ceiling for line wins, which points to the free spins as the part of the game that matters.
Stakes in the demo run from C$0.20 to C$2,000, and the buy price is allowed to go past that upper figure. Each casino sets its own real-money range.
Casinos
Where to play Chaos Crew
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Hacksaw Gaming; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.
Where to play Chaos Crew in Canada
The casinos above name Hacksaw Gaming among their providers. Among those we cover, that includes Jackpot City Casino, Spin Casino, Rainbet Casino, Wildz Casino, Gamdom Casino and JustCasino. None of the casinos we cover had Chaos Crew in its top-games row when we checked, so search for the title by name before you deposit.
Legality is set province by province. Ontarians are covered by operators that combine AGCO registration with an iGaming Ontario agreement; Albertans, since 13 July 2026, by operators registered with the AGLC under an AiGC agreement. Everywhere else the regulated choice is the province's own site, and no province licenses an offshore casino. Players must be 19, except in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec, where 18 is the threshold. The legal online casinos page goes through each route.
At the casino, check two things in the game's info screen: the RTP version and the buy price. Both can differ from the defaults on this page, because the casino picks the configuration.
Features
How Chaos Crew plays
Base game and bonus features as the provider's rules describe them.
- Cranky Cat multiplier multiplies the reel value it lands under by x2, x3, x5, x10 or x20; the Epic version multiplies all reels
- Sketchy Skull adds +1, +2, +5, +10 or +20 to its reel value; the Epic version adds to all reels
- Free Spins 3 Free Spin symbols: starts with 3 spins, resets to 3 on each winning symbol; at the end the sum of the reel values is multiplied by the bet

| Symbol | Pays |

Cranky Cat and Sketchy Skull
The two characters are what make Chaos Crew different from a standard lines slot. Each one works on reel values, a number attached to each of the five reels.
Sketchy Skull: adds
When a Sketchy Skull lands, it adds +1, +2, +5, +10 or +20 to the value of the reel it sits on. The Epic version adds to every reel at once.
Cranky Cat: multiplies
When a Cranky Cat lands, it multiplies the value of the reel below it by x2, x3, x5, x10 or x20. The Epic version multiplies every reel.
Why the order matters
Because one adds and the other multiplies, the sequence decides a lot. A cat multiplies whatever value its reel holds at the moment it lands. A skull's addition that arrives before the cat is multiplied with the rest; one that arrives after is not. That is plain arithmetic from the rules, and it explains why two rounds with the same symbols can end very differently.
The Epic versions are the big moments. An Epic skull raises all five reels at once, and an Epic cat multiplies all five, which is how a round can climb quickly towards the cap.
Free spins: three spins that keep resetting
Three Free Spin symbols start the round. It begins with three spins, and every winning symbol that lands resets the count to three, so the round lasts as long as they keep arriving.
When the spins run out, the five reel values are added together, and the total is multiplied by your bet. That is the round's payout: the bigger the reel values when the last spin ends, the bigger the result.
A few points follow from the rules:
- A short round can pay little. If the count runs out early, the reel values have little time to grow.
- Every new symbol buys time. The reset to three is what gives a round the chance to snowball.
- Epic symbols are worth the most. They touch all five reels in one go.
This round is also the only place the 10,000x maximum can be reached. Base-game line wins top out far below it.

Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Chaos Crew is set to pay back about C$96.30 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.70. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$18.50 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 92.40%, 88.40%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
Very high volatility: the top wins are rare by design - budget for long losing runs. The cap is 10,000x: C$10,000 on a C$1 spin.
Chaos Crew RTP: three settings
Hacksaw ships Chaos Crew at three return settings, and which one you meet is the operator's decision:
| Setting | Long-run house share per C$100 staked |
|---|---|
| 96.30% (default) | about C$3.70 |
| 92.40% | about C$7.60 |
| 88.40% | about C$11.60 |
Measured per C$100, the 88.40% build takes over three times what the default takes. In a single session at 5 of 5 volatility, luck will dwarf that difference. Across many sessions, it adds up to real money.
The help pages inside the game name the setting in use; the line you want mentions the theoretical return. If it shows 92.40% or 88.40%, the same game may be set higher at a different casino.
The 129x bonus buy has its own RTP, covered in the next section. Our RTP versions guide explains why studios offer several settings and how to check them, and the high RTP slots list shows games with higher published defaults.
The 129x buy and what it costs
The Bonus Buy takes you straight to the free spins for 129 times the bet. At the C$0.20 minimum, that is C$25.80.
Two details are worth knowing before you use it:
- The buy's RTP is 95.92%, a little below the default 96.30% for normal play. Over a long run, buying the round costs slightly more than reaching it naturally in that version.
- The price can vary. The 129x figure is what the game server returned for the default RTP configuration. Under other RTP settings the price may differ, so check it in the game at your casino.
The bigger point is risk. A buy turns the long wait for three scatters into one large stake on one round, and a Chaos Crew round can end after three dead spins with little on the reels. A bought round can pay far below its price.
The buy can also exceed the top spin stake of C$2,000 in the demo. Size the stake with the buy price in mind. Our bonus buy slots page compares this option across games.

Chaos Crew and the rest of the series
Hacksaw has built the original into a small series: Chaos Crew 2, Chaos Crew 3 and a scratch-card version, Chaos Crew Scratch. They share the characters, but each has its own rules and figures, so do not assume the original's RTP or cap carries over.
From the same studio, Wanted Dead or a Wild has its own page here. The two make a useful comparison:
| Chaos Crew | Wanted Dead or a Wild | |
|---|---|---|
| Grid and lines | 5x5, 15 lines | 5x5, 15 lines |
| Default RTP | 96.30% | 96.38% |
| Volatility (Hacksaw scale) | 5 of 5 | 4 of 5 |
| Max win | 10,000x | 12,500x |
| Bonus rounds | 1 | 3 |
| Buy price | 129x | 80x / 200x / 400x |
Chaos Crew is the simpler and more volatile of the two: one bonus, one buy and the top rating on Hacksaw's scale. Wanted Dead or a Wild offers more choice and a slightly higher cap. Both have free demos on their pages, so trying them side by side costs nothing. More from the studio is on our Hacksaw Gaming page.
Volatility 5 of 5 and the 10,000x cap
Hacksaw grades volatility from 1 to 5, and Chaos Crew sits at 5, the top of the scale. In practical terms: base-game line wins are small, the maximum can only be reached in the free spins, and long sessions without a large win are part of normal play.
The cap is 10,000 times the stake, reachable only in the free spins. On the C$0.20 minimum that is C$2,000. It is a ceiling, not a likely result.
A game at this level calls for a plan before the first spin:
- Pick a stake your budget can repeat many times. The free spins trigger at random, and a lower stake gives more chances to see them.
- Set a loss limit and a time limit. Write them down if it helps.
- Decide on the buy in advance. At 129x, a few purchases can use up a session budget quickly.
Our volatility guide explains what the number tells you, and our responsible gambling page covers deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. Provincial self-exclusion applies only to that province's regulated sites.
Playing the Chaos Crew demo
The chaos crew demo at the top of this page is Hacksaw Gaming's own. The browser demo starts you with play credits shown in C$ and carries the game's full rules; real-money limits and the RTP setting are chosen by each casino. Skip the sign-up: there is nothing to register or fund, and demo credits never turn into cash.
Because the game puts so much into its free spins, the demo is especially useful here. Things to watch:
- How often three Free Spin symbols land in the base game.
- How long a typical round lasts before three dead spins end it.
- What the reel values look like at the end, and how much an Epic symbol changes them.
- How the base-game balance moves between bonuses.
A strong demo session predicts nothing about a real one; the results are random either way. Use the demo to learn the mechanic and decide whether 5 of 5 volatility suits you. More provider demos are on our free slots page.
Chaos Crew questions
The default is 96.30%, and Hacksaw also ships 92.40% and 88.40% settings. Operators pick the setting, not players, so read the theoretical return in the game's help pages at your casino before staking real money.
Three Free Spin symbols start the round with three spins, and each winning symbol resets the count to three. Sketchy Skulls add to a reel's value and Cranky Cats multiply it. When the spins run out, the five reel values are added up and paid as a multiple of the bet.
Hacksaw caps it at 10,000 times the stake, which is C$2,000 on a C$0.20 spin. It can only be reached in the free spins round, and at 5 of 5 volatility it is a ceiling rather than a result to expect.
129 times the bet, or C$25.80 at the C$0.20 minimum, with a buy RTP of 95.92%. That price is what the game server returned for the default RTP setting; under other settings it may differ, so check it in the game.
Fifteen. Hacksaw's own game page says 15 in its introduction and 19 in its data block, but the rules inside the game and the game server's line set both confirm 15 lines on the 5x5 grid.
