Verdict
Wanted Dead or a Wild packs three distinct bonuses and a base-game wild-reel mechanic into a compact 15-line game, with a 12,500x cap and a 4 out of 5 volatility rating from Hacksaw itself. The catch is the RTP: the studio lists four versions, from 96.38% down to 88.42%, and the casino picks one. Check the info screen before you stake real money.
Best for: Players who want a choice of bonus styles and are comfortable with long dry spells for a shot at large multipliers.
Skip if: You only play at the highest return - versions as low as 88.42% exist and some casinos may run them.

Wanted Dead or a Wild is Hacksaw Gaming's take on the western: a 5x5 grid, 15 paylines, a saloon's worth of whiskey bottles and revolvers, and outlaws who duel for the right to put a multiplier on a reel. Hacksaw rates its volatility 4 out of 5 and caps wins at 12,500 times the stake.
What sets the game apart is that it has three separate bonus rounds, each with its own logic: one adds more duels, one hoards wilds for a final showdown, and one makes every wild sticky. This page explains the wanted dead or a wild slot game feature by feature, sets out the four RTP versions and the three buy prices, and covers what to check before you play it for money. The free demo at the top runs with play money in Canadian dollars.

Hacksaw Wanted Dead or a Wild: the base game
The game runs on a 5x5 grid with 15 fixed paylines. Hacksaw's game page shows the title as "Wanted Dead Or a Wild" with a capital O; inside the game it is written "Wanted Dead or a Wild". Same game either way.
The paytable is split into three tiers. Values are multiples of the total bet for three, four and five of a kind:
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild | - | - | 20x |
| Revolver cylinder | 2x | 10x | 20x |
| Money bag, whiskey bottle | 1x | 5x | 10x |
| Bull skull, outlaw with bandana | 0.50x | 2.50x | 5x |
| 10, J, Q, K, A | 0.10x | 0.50x | 1x |
Those line pays are modest on purpose. The game's real potential comes from multipliers, and those arrive through the VS symbols in the base game and through the three bonus rounds.
The demo shows a stake range of C$0.20 to C$2,000, and feature buys can cost more than the top stake. Real-money limits are set by each casino, so the range you see there may differ.

Casinos
Where to play Wanted Dead or a Wild
How we know: a casino is listed when its published provider list includes Hacksaw Gaming; "seen" means the title was in its own top-games row on that date.

The list above shows casinos whose published provider list includes Hacksaw Gaming. Among the casinos we cover, Hacksaw appears on the provider lists of the international sites of Jackpot City Casino, Spin Casino, LeoVegas Casino, Casino Days, Rainbet Casino and Pinnacle Casino, among others. A provider listing does not prove this title is in the lobby, so search for it by name before you deposit.

- In Ontario, online casinos are regulated through AGCO registration and an iGaming Ontario operating agreement.

DuelReels: when a VS symbol becomes a wild reel
The base game's main mechanic is called DuelReels. A VS symbol can land on the reels; if it would be part of a win, it expands to fill its whole reel as a Wild. Two outlaws then face off on that reel, and the one left standing reveals a multiplier between 2x and 100x that applies to wins through the reel.
When more than one VS reel is involved in a win, their multipliers are added together. The reel multipliers combine as a sum, not a product. That addition rule keeps the numbers in proportion, but it still means a pair of high duels on a strong line can produce a large hit from a single base spin.
Two details are easy to miss:
- A VS symbol only expands when it would contribute to a win. One landing on a reel with nothing to connect stays dormant.
- The multiplier belongs to the reel, so it applies to every winning line that runs through it on that spin.
This is also the mechanic that one of the bonus rounds builds on, so understanding it in the base game makes the free spins easier to follow. The free demo is a good place to watch a few duels and see how often a VS reel connects.
Three bonus rounds, three different ideas
Each bonus is triggered by its own scatter symbol: three or more of the matching kind start that round. They are not upgrades of one another; each changes the game in a different way.
Duel at Dawn
Three or more DUEL scatters award 10 free spins with more VS symbols on the reels. This is the base-game DuelReels mechanic turned up: more chances for wild reels and their 2x-100x multipliers on each spin.
Dead Man's Hand
Three or more DEAD scatters start a collection round. Every Wild and multiplier that lands is stored. The round runs until three dead spins, and then three Showdown spins follow, with every collected Wild added to the reels and the total collected multiplier applied. Of the three, it puts the most weight on its ending.
The Great Train Robbery
Three or more TRAIN ROBBERY scatters award 10 free spins in which all Wilds are sticky. Once a Wild lands, it stays for the rest of the round, so wilds can build up over the 10 spins.
Which suits you is a matter of taste: Duel at Dawn spreads its value across many spins, Dead Man's Hand puts it into a final burst, and the Great Train Robbery builds a sticky grid. All three are also available as direct buys, covered next.
Maths
RTP and volatility in dollars
Over a very long run, Wanted Dead or a Wild is set to pay back about C$96.38 of every C$100 wagered; the house keeps about C$3.62. At C$1 a spin, 500 spins means C$500 wagered and an expected cost of about C$18.10 - real sessions land far above or below that.
The same game also exists at 94.55%, 92.33%, 88.42%. A lower version costs more per C$100 wagered, and the casino - not you - picks which one runs.
High volatility: long dry spells are normal; most of the return sits in rare big features. The cap is 12,500x: C$12,500 on a C$1 spin.
Wanted Dead or a Wild slot bonus buy: prices and returns
Every one of the three rounds can be bought directly from the base game. The prices step up with the round:
| Bonus | Price | Cost at the C$0.20 minimum |
|---|---|---|
| The Great Train Robbery | 80x bet | C$16 |
| Duel at Dawn | 200x bet | C$40 |
| Dead Man's Hand | 400x bet | C$80 |
In the build we checked, the three buys returned between 96.27% and 96.43%, close to the game's default RTP of 96.38%. Buying a bonus therefore does not change the long-run cost much in that version. What it changes is the shape of the risk: instead of many small stakes and a long wait, you place one large stake on one round, and a round can finish well below its price.
The buy prices can exceed the demo's maximum stake of C$2,000. At higher bets, a single purchase can be a very large amount, so set the stake with the buy price in mind rather than the spin price.
For the wanted dead or a wild demo bonus buy, the demo build lists all three buys, so you can see how each round plays with play money before deciding whether any of them is worth real money. Our bonus buy slots page lists other games with the same option.
Wanted Dead or a Wild RTP: four versions, one choice
Hacksaw's game data lists four RTP settings for this title. The casino decides which one it runs, and you cannot change it:
| Version | House keeps per C$100 wagered over time |
|---|---|
| 96.38% (default) | about C$3.62 |
| 94.55% | about C$5.45 |
| 92.33% | about C$7.67 |
| 88.42% | about C$11.58 |
The gap between the top and the bottom version is large: the lowest costs more than three times as much per C$100 as the default. Over a short session, luck swamps that difference. Over many sessions, it adds up.
The wanted dead or a wild rtp that applies to you is in the game's own rules at your casino. Open the info or help screen and look for the theoretical return. If it shows one of the lower figures, you are playing a version that costs more over time, and the same game may be set higher elsewhere.
Our RTP versions guide explains why studios ship several settings and how to spot which one a casino uses. For games where the provider's figures run higher, see high RTP slots.

Volatility 4 of 5 and the 12,500x ceiling
Hacksaw grades volatility on a five-step scale and puts this game at 4. That places it towards the top of the studio's own range: expect stretches where the line pays and the occasional small duel are all you see.
The cap is 12,500 times the stake. On the C$0.20 minimum that is C$2,500. The figure is a ceiling, not a target, and reaching it is rare by design.
A few habits suit a game with this profile:
- Size the stake to the budget. At a lower stake the same budget lasts more spins and gives more chances to reach a bonus.
- Decide on buys before you start. A single 400x purchase can take a large share of a session budget.
- Set limits and stick to them. Deposit limits and time-outs are explained on our responsible gambling page.
For a plain explanation of what a volatility number tells you, and what it does not, see our volatility guide. Other games in the same risk band are on the high-volatility slots list.
Wanted Dead or a Wild free slot: using the demo
The wanted dead or a wild free slot at the top of this page is Hacksaw Gaming's own demo. It runs in the browser demo with a play-money balance in Canadian dollars, and needs no account or deposit. Nothing won in it can be withdrawn.
Anyone looking for wanted dead or a wild free play, or for the wanted dead or a wild demo or slot demo, will find it here without signing up anywhere. A few things are worth watching while you play:
- How often a VS reel connects in the base game, and what multipliers the duels produce.
- How far apart the bonus triggers are. That gap is what a buy replaces.
- How the three bonuses differ in practice. Buying each one in the demo is the cheapest way to see which style you prefer.
- Your balance over a few hundred spins. It shows what a 4 out of 5 rating feels like.
Remember that the demo is as random as real play. A good run in it predicts nothing. Use it to learn the rules, then decide. Our free slots page has more provider demos.
Is there a Wanted Dead or a Wild promo code?
Not from the studio. Hacksaw Gaming makes the game and does not publish promo codes for it. A wanted dead or a wild promo code advertised anywhere is a casino promotion, tied to that casino's own terms, and we list no such code on this page as of October 2026.
If a casino offers free spins or a bonus on this game, judge it by the terms:
- Stake per free spin. The value each spin is played at decides what a win can be worth.
- Wagering on winnings. If winnings are credited as bonus money, the multiple you must wager matters most. Our wagering calculator does the sum.
- Bonus buy rules. Check whether the terms allow feature buys while a bonus is active before you press the buy button.
- Maximum cashout. A cap can limit what a lucky round pays out.
Offers we have checked, with their terms, are on our free spins and casino bonuses pages.
Wanted Dead or a Wild questions
Hacksaw Gaming lists four versions: 96.38% by default, plus 94.55%, 92.33% and 88.42%. The casino chooses which one it runs. Open the game's info screen at your casino to see the figure that applies to you before you play for money.
The Great Train Robbery costs 80x the bet, Duel at Dawn 200x and Dead Man's Hand 400x. At the C$0.20 minimum that is C$16, C$40 and C$80. In the build we checked, the buys returned between 96.27% and 96.43%.
Hacksaw caps it at 12,500 times the stake, which is C$2,500 on a C$0.20 spin. It is a ceiling that is rare by design, not a result to expect.
Yes. The demo on this page is Hacksaw Gaming's own, with a play-money balance in Canadian dollars. You need no account or deposit, all three bonus buys were listed in the demo build we loaded, and nothing won can be withdrawn.
Hacksaw rates it 4 on its five-step volatility scale. A rating that high means long runs of small or no wins are normal, with the bigger results concentrated in fewer spins.
